Using an HP All-in-One as a Second Monitor: My Experience and Solution

Recently, I wanted to use my HP All-in-One as a second monitor for my laptop. Unfortunately, it doesn’t support HDMI input, so I had to look for alternative solutions. The most straightforward option seemed to be Windows’ built-in wireless display feature. However, the results were far from ideal.

The wireless display worked, but the quality was poor and the connection was laggy. To make matters worse, it only functioned over Wi-Fi, even though I have a 1Gbps wired connection between my laptop and the HP All-in-One. Despite my efforts, I couldn’t get the wireless display to work over the wired connection—it simply failed to detect my All-in-One when I disabled Wi-Fi.

Determined to find a better solution, I did some research and came across a third-party software called Spacedesk. It worked brilliantly, offering excellent performance and a range of customization options. I highly recommend it for anyone facing similar issues.

It’s surprising how a tech giant like Microsoft could fall short on such a basic feature, but thankfully, third-party tools like Spacedesk fill the gap.
